Student mentors

Mentoring helps to meet the social and emotional needs of young people, through the creation of a supportive environment, and thus provides an important foundation for young people to take greater advantage of their education.

At Victoria Point State High School, we have two mentor groups that work with a range of our students.

The school-based youth community mentors program (PDF, 5.23 MB) comes every Wednesday afternoon (from 1.30 pm to 2.45 pm) to work with students in both one-on-one and small group settings. The program takes place onsite at VPSHS and we currently have 9 mentors, the majority of whom have been mentoring our students for nearly 7 years. They talk about what is happening in the young person’s life, play group board games, celebrate birthdays together and also help with school work.

Our external mentoring program is facilitated by Boystown staff that collect students every Wednesday and they deliver a similar program off campus. This caters better for students who feel more comfortable in smaller groups.
